Thank You Very Much

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Thanks to all of you for the kind words and well wishes on my Birthday yesterday. It was a fantastic day. Though, it seems that I had a great deal of age-related realizations, appropriately enough, on the day that my life advanced another year.

I have Thursdays off of work, so yesterday was my day to sleep in; really enjoy the comfort of my bed well past 7:15am. I was awake at 8am, attempting to convince my body that it needed more rest. My body did not comply, and I rolled out of bed. I was partially OK with this though, because this left me time for video games.

Before I could start in on my games, I decided to eat some breakfast. I had three cupcakes. Then, get this – I got a stomach ache! What the fuck? Three cupcakes used to be an appetizer, now my body gets all uppity if it receives anything less healthy than Multi-Grain Cheerios before noon. I pooped, and took a spot in front of the TV.

I had not played video games for over a month, and I had even attempted to schedule some playing time in, but always had something else that needed attending to. Yeah; I was scheduling video game time. That is a relatively new concept to me. Up until the last couple of years, everything else got scheduled around activities like video games, and now my precious Xbox is taking a back seat to insane concepts like work and grocery shopping and sleeping.

It took me several minutes from turning on my Xbox before actually playing, as I had to adjust my seating arrangement several time into a position that would not cause me back pain.

I spent most of the day playing Call of Duty: World at War with Bone and Josh. Then at 5pm, I went to my folk’s house out in Beaverton for dinner. The age-realizations did not stop. I complained about traffic. I ate salad. I contemplated the nutritional value of my Wilbur burger. I was genuinely grateful to receive socks for my birthday (the kind with the extra sole padding). And after one, just one slice of cheesecake, I had to sit on the couch for 30 minutes and rub my belly before walking was even an option.

I returned home, still wondering where the fuck all these people could be driving to at 8:30 at night, and went to the local bar for a drink. I had one Jack and coke. It made me sleepy. I had one more bourbon and coke. It made me dog tired. We went home.

I updated my Netflix queue (Thanks Mom and Dad!), and retired to bed, where I read one chapter from my book under the dim glow of my reading light, and fell asleep.

Hello, 25 years-old. You’re a real cunt.

Thanks again to everyone for everything. Despite me apparently being damn near over the hill, I had an amazing day.

Old Documents

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

I was at my folk’s house this afternoon, and they recently were going through old photographs, and found all of these old documents that belonged to my great grandfather. I love old pieces of print, no matter how simple. I love the way the paper ages, I love the line work, and I especially love the typography.

Deck the Halls

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I’m up in Seattle on one of my twice-a-month business trips, staying at my cousin’s house as usual; not complaining, it’s a dope spot. Got in last night at around 8:15 and decorated the massive Christmas tree he had picked up earlier in the day. Thing had a slight bend to it, due to phototropism (thanks outdoor school!) but we made that fucker glow.

Went to bed early so I could get a fresh start on the day. Woke up and the Christmas tree was laying on the floor. Apparently the bend was a bit more severe than we thought.

Cousin left for Miami this afternoon, so now I am sitting on his couch alone waiting on a pizza to be delivered and deciding whether or not to redecorate his tree with the ornaments that fell off and didn’t break.

Rewind: Had a good week, despite being under the weather due to a 7 day hangover from last weekend’s college football failure shenanigans. Got a lot of work done, went on some cold bike rides with Brandon.

Saturday, I put 50 miles on my motorcycle on a ride with Mitch. Throttle was messed up, bike was running like shit, and the fuel guage was broken. Turns out the bike was fine, and it just needed gas. I am an idiot. Just cause you can hear gas in the tank doesn’t mean it’s getting to the engine I guess. Who knew? With the fuel guage indicating full, I got in some good time with the ol’ ace of spades.

I also saw Ellie on Saturday morning. She’s still awesome, even if she was in a shitty mood for one reason or another. See below for a photo of the eye of the baby storm.

Got my beard trimmed up by my lovely and talented girlfriend. I still have a big beard, but look a lot less like a guy who’s about to rape (surprise intercourse) you. See below.

Anyways, pizza is here, and I think I might attempt to put some shiny balls and lights on this tree. Bye now.
